Public Needs to Let Story Develop Before Making Assumptions
News was just released of a woman accusing Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin of sexual assault in Miami, FL, back in the summer of 2007. The woman, identified only as Jane Doe in her filing, made the claim in a civil suit filed Thursday.
Now I know every single one of you already has your opinion about Michael Irvin and I probably can do little to change that, but let’s get the record straight.
First off, Irvin has been accused of this before, and been proved innocent before. In 1996, Irvin and teammate Erik Williams were accused of holding a gun to a woman’s head while raping and filming her. This woman was later proven to have made up the entire story. She was found guilty of perjury and sentenced to 90 days in prison. So before you go blasting the playmaker for this incident, let the story develop and allow the facts to surface.
Michael Irvin isn’t the only star who has been falsely accused of rape. In a matter yet to be resolved, Ben Roethlisberger was accused of sexual assault just seven months ago. In his case, the woman, a hotel employee, claims that Roethlisberger called her to his hotel room to fix his television. Upon finding out the TV was not broke, she tried to leave as he blocked the door, then began to kiss her and then rape her.
In a sworn statement, a co-worker of the accuser claims that the girl was bragging about having consensual sex with Roethlisberger. In the statement the co-worker also says that the accuser talked about the possibility of being pregnant with a “little Roethlisberger” and also invited the co-worker to a Steelers game in ’08 in the hopes of “running into” Big Ben.
What about Kobe Bryant? Who can forget about that incident? The best basketball player in the world made a huge mistake and decided to commit adultery by having consensual sex with a 19-year-old in Eagle, Colorado in 2003.
What did the girl then go and do? Well she went to try and make herself some money and accused Bryant of rape. After thinking for a year with her lawyers about a way to make Bryant look guilty, the girl and her legal team had nothing. The girl refused to testify against Bryant in trial and prosecutors dropped the case.
Incidents like this have happened to many other athletes and wealthy people in general. All of these girls hook up with these athletes and stars so they will have a good story to brag about to their girlfriends. When the story becomes old news to all their girlfriends, they look for a way to stay relevant and make some money while doing it. That is why you see all of these accusations coming out months and years after the alleged incidents. If the incidents were so terrible and traumatic, that you would send a person to prison and ruin their life for doing them, then why would you not come forward immediately?
These girls don’t come forward immediately because they want their “hush money”. They know that many of these superstar athletes have wives and girlfriends that they are being unfaithful to so they hold it against them. Now I am not saying that these players have a right to be unfaithful by any means, but the girls have no right demanding “hush money” to be quiet on a cruel act that they themselves knowingly participated in.
So when you see the accusations of this “Jane Doe” towards Michael Irvin, remember the accusations were made over an incident that happened back in 2007. She is doing what many other girls have done in the past and will not get away with it. Once again, Irvin was probably doing something he should not have been doing, but that gives this woman no right to attempt to destroy his life with a serious allegation that is most likely untrue.
